#BEIJING2015: Campbell fails to advance after brave run
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Despite falling in heat one of the men’s 5000m, Jamaica’s Kemoy Campbell got up and finished the 12-lap event at the IAAF World Championships now under way in Beijing, China.
However, his courageous run was not enough to take him through to the final.
Campbell needed to have finished among the top five runners to qualify. He clocked 14:00:55 to finish 15th even after falling and being trampled.
“It was a great experience I wouldn’t say it was a good race. I was really disappointed with the time and that I fell in the race. It was my first World Championship and I wanted to be up there with the elite and qualify for the finals,” Campbell said.
In the meantime, Ethiopia’s Hagos Gebrhiwet took the heat in 13:45:00 ahead of American Ben True (13:45:09); Kenya’s Edwin Cheruiyot Soi (13:45:28); Tom Farrell of Great Britain (13:45:29); and Ethiopia’s Imane Merga, who finished in a time of 13:45:41s.
