#BEIJING2015: Spencer, Russell book spots in 400mH finals
KINGSTON, Jamaica – After running hard out of the blocks, Jamaica’s Kaliese Spencer finished second in a time of 54.45s to book her place in the finals of the Women’s 400 metres Hurdles on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old Spencer will have to give it her all to attain her first medal at a World Championships, having finished fourth in 2009 and 2011.
Denmark’s Sara Slott Peterson finished ahead of Spencer in a time of 54.34s.
Compatriot Janieve Russell also finished second in her semi-final race to qualify for the finals of the event.
Russell clocked 54.78 behind Zuzana Hehnova, who finished in a time of 54.24 seconds as the quickest qualifier.
The Jamaicans will be lining up with Cassandra Tate of the USA, who won her semi-finals in 54.33 seconds. Tate was trailed in that race by South Africa’s Wenda Nel, who ran 54.63s.
American Shamier Little also made it to the finals after a third place 54.86 run. And, the final woman to line up at 7:10 am (Jamaica local time) at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China, on Wednesday is Eilidh Child of Britain.
