#BEIJING2015: Jamaicans fail to advance to men’s 400m final
KINGSTON, Jamaica – After stopping the clock at 43.93 seconds for second in his 400m heat at the IAAF World Championships now under way in Beijing, China, Jamaica’s Rusheen McDonald today failed to advance to the finals of the event.
In fact, all three Jamaicans that competed in the semi-finals a short while ago failed to advance to the men’s 400m finals.
McDonald clocked 44.86 seconds to finish sixth in his race and Peter Matthews finished eighth in his semi-finals race in a time of 45.42 seconds.
Javon Francis stopped the clock at 44.77 seconds inside the Bird’s Nest to finish fourth in his semi-final race, but this was not good enough to get him into the finals.
Grenada’s Kirani James is among the men who will face off in the finals after he clocked 44.16 seconds to qualify. The fastest qualifier though is Isaac Makwala of Botswana, he stopped the clock at 44.11 seconds.
Trinidad and Tobago will also be represented in the men’s 400m finals by Machel Cedenio who advanced as one of the fastest losers with a time of 44.64s.
The other men to line up on Wednesday at 8:25 am (Jamaica local time) are the Dominican Republics’ Luguelin Santos (44.26s); South Africa’s Wayde Van Niekerk (44.31s); American LaShawn Merritt (44.34s); Saudia Arabia’s Yousef Ahmed Masrahi (44.40s); and Britain’s Rabah Yousif (44.54s).
