Bolt ready to run another world record
AFTER cruising into the semi-finals of the 100m at the World Championships yesterday, the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, is not ruling out a world record run in the final later today.
“The track is always quick and I still think it is quick, so we will see what happens,” a buoyant Bolt said.
Bolt, the defending champion in both the 100 and 200 metres, was slow out of the starting blocks but in a few strides he was up on the shoulders of American Mike Rodgers before easing home in 9.96 seconds.
When asked how much of an effort he put in the race, Bolt quickly replied: “Actually, it was pretty easy, I must say. I didn’t come out here to try to run fast and to prove anything. I was just trying to get through the rounds and try to get my start right and execute right, that’s what I am focusing on right now, my technique,” Bolt said.
Bolt will enter the semi-finals with the fifth fastest time behind Americans Justin Gatlin (9.83), Trayvon Bromwell (9.91), Jimmy Vicaut of France with 9.92 and countryman Asafa Powell, 9.95 seconds.
“The track is very fast and a lot of times it is easy to run fast when there is no pressure, but when pressure is applied a lot of guys tighten up and start losing their form, so you never know,” he pointed out, with a shrug.
Bolt, who holds the world record of 9.58 seconds, said he is a championship runner and he is here to prove his doubters wrong once again.
“That’s the aim coming here: to prove that I am a champion. I am the best, so that’s the aim, that’s my focus,” he said, before quickly disappearing.
