#BEIJING2015: Two Jamaicans into Triple Jump final
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaicans Kimberly Williams and Shanieka Thomas, both of whom today contested the women’s Triple Jump, have advanced to the final.@ObserverLive
Williams jumped 14.23 metres while Thomas jumped 14.05 on day one of the IAAF World Championships that is under way in Beijing, China.
In the qualifying event, only five women went over the automatic qualifying distance of 14.25m.
Along with Colombia, Jamaica is the only country to have two finalists in the event. Colombia’s Caterine Ibarguen jumped 14.42m while her teammate Yosiry Urrutia recorded a jump of 13.84m.
The best jump of the qualifying event was, however, produced by Bulgaria’s much-improved 2015 European indoor silver medallist Gabriela Petrova.
After her first two jumps of 14.09m and 14.11m, Petrova executed an excellent effort of 14.44m to confirm her potential as a medal contender.
