KINGSTON Jamaica – Asafa Powell a short while ago clocked 9.95 seconds to win heat one of the men’s 100 metres to advance to the semi-finals at the IAAF World Championships now under way in Beijing, China.
The former world record holder eased to victory ahead of China’s Bingtian Su and South Africa’s Akani Simbine, who finished second (10.03s) and third (10.09s), respectively.
Powell, the most prolific sub-10 athlete in history, ran out of lane two in the afternoon session of day one of the championships.
