Carter’s 100m hopes dashed?
BEIJING, China – The hope that Jamaica’s Nesta Carter would participate in the 100m at the World Championships in Beijing, China, is almost dashed, following attempts by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) to have the IAAF’s decision that ruled him out overturned.
Carter, who finished fourth at Jamaica’s Senior Championships in June and was named among the 4x100m relay pool, was drafted in on Sunday, August 16, to replace the injured Kemar Bailey-Cole in the 100m.
In a follow-up story which OBSERVER ONLINE broke on Thursday, Garth Gayle, the JAAA’s general secretary, revealed its almost impossible to get him in as time is running out.
“The answer that I am receiving from the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) is not pleasing and it’s not within the spirit of the competition where a country is now being denied one of their legitimate entrants, where we are seeking simply a substitution. I cannot understand the reason,” said Gayle.
The 100m are set to begin early Saturday morning, Jamaica time, thus increasing the possibility that Carter will watch the event from the stands or his room.
