Seeded players in quarters of Hi-Pro All-Ja Senior Tennis Championships
SEEDED players easily disposed of their opponents to advance to the quarter-finals of the men’s singles at the 2015 Hi-Pro All-Jamaica Tennis Championships at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre yesterday.
The championships continue today with the quarter-finals of the men’s singles at the same venue, starting at 10:00 am.
Yesterday’s second-round action saw a number of matches being played as result of a carry-over from the previous two days which were negatively impacted by inclement weather.
As a result, tournament director David Sanquinetti had to schedule some individuals to play two matches for the day.
The only seeded player that was knocked out was eighth-seeded Javaughn Mullings, who went down in three sets to unseeded Rushane Allen 1-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Meanwhile, top seed in the main draw of the men’s singles Damion Johnson, was scheduled to play unseeded Horatio Ludford in his second-round match at press time. Johnson crushed Michael Jones 6-0, 6-0 in his first-round match on Monday.
Second-seed Rowland Phillips put away unseeded Myles Harrison in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 to move into the quarter-finals. Phillips had gained a walkover from Jeremy Miller in his first-round match.
In other men’s singles matches played yesterday, fourth-seeded Marcus Malcolm had to come from a set down before disposing of Christopher Hendricks 6-7, 7-5, 6-2; fifth-seeded Yussuf Migoko eliminated unseeded Cliff Dwyer 6-4, 6-2; and McCoy Malcolm breezed past Kyle Martin in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
