Yes, Amedyss!
Summer beloved summer. A time when we are filled with bittersweet emotions, as we revel in the break but rue each passing day as it brings us closer to the resumption of school. Whether you want to embrace one aspect more than the other, there are a few things about the two-month vacation from school we all can acknowledge – parties, road trips, food and let’s not forget FASHION!
While we are sure that you have been enjoying the “a weekly dose of fashion” you’ve been getting, teenAGE has decided to increase the dosage by introducing you to the beautiful crochet designs from Nina Levy’s Amedyss crotchet collection.
You all must know that we went all out on this one just for you, and after seeing the lovely dresses, we’re positive you’re going to be quite eager to prompt ‘mom’ or ‘dad’ to order one for that special event coming up, or an evening out or a day at the beach with family or friends.
Nina Levy (NL) is the creative mastermind behind the crafty work of art and after igniting the runway of style week a month ago, she had pleasure partnering with us to showcase her work yet again. After taking photos of a few of her creations, we had a chat with her about her craft, this is what she told us:
teenAGE (TA): Dresses made of crochet, creative but how did you formulate the idea from day one?NL: I follow today’s trends so I may see a particular dress and and start thinking of how to create something similar. I either map it out in my head or make a sketch. I am working from a crotchet pattern so it’s a lot of trial and error, pull out and redo until I get it the way I want it to be.
TA: Any ideas yet for the upcoming collection, or you’re still brainstorming? Always brainstorming and always working on something. Right now I am working on swimwear for a contestant in Miss Jamaica Universe and possibly a dress, depending on how much time it takes.
NL:
TA: Amedyss? What does it mean and why did you decide to make that the name of the collection? Amedyss is actually ‘a me diss’ . I felt it sounded exotic when spelt and pronounced that way and you don’t necessarily realise it’s patois. It’s really saying that crochet is my signature.
NL:
TA: There are a large number of young and upcoming designers out there, what would be your advice to them? Well, I wouldn’t tell anyone to do crochet if they don’t have the patience, but if fashion is your passion, then you have to explore it and find like-minded people, you would be surprised how helpful they can be.

The beautiful designs were worn by models Kesi Mortley, Shaundel Campbell, Vanessa Roseway, Thristan Newman and Leneka Rhoden. Also, we could not forget our lovely make-up artist, Tiffany Bryd, and our photographer Jevon Williams whose art helped to enhance the entire production.
Stay tuned for another fashion dosage from a prominent clothing store which we will bring to you next week…
