Freedom Fe Who? kicks off today
THE Little Theatre Movement’s (LTM) continues its tradition this year with Freedom Fe Who? which will be showcased today — Emancipation Day — at the Little Theatre in St Andrew.
According to the LTM’s Barbara Gloudon, the work is a celebration of an important part of Jamaican history.
“The Pantomime Company pays respect to Emancipation with a production highlighting, not only the day, but what came after, hence the title: “Freedom Fe Who?” The production is the latest in the LTM’s Heritage Series focusing not only the trials and tribulations of ex-slaves but how they had to “tek bad sinting mek laugh,” she said.
The production opens with performances at 3:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Tomorrow, curtain time is 4:30 pm.
Besides the onstage activity, there will be an exhibition presented by the African Caribbean Institute of Jamaica, a department of the Institute of Jamaica, which has given dedicated support to Emancipation theatre, ever since the Pantomime Company launched it with Augus Mawnin in 1997 when Emancipation Day was re-introduced to the Jamaican calendar.
Another feature on Saturday and Sunday will be “Taste Mout”, a selection of favourite Jamaican treats from ole-time kitchens, popular with all ages.
