A Taste of Hanover – Brunch By Rhona at Bumper’s Nest
Thursday Life took up residence in Hanover last weekend where we enjoyed gourmet fare in the luxurious setting of Bumper’s Nest at the Tryall Club and also on the beach at Pachie’s, the Culinary Gem for the parish. Join us as we eat our way across our beloved island, parish by parish.
Having the Kasimir Korybutdesigned Bumper’s Nest at the Tryall Club for a long weekend is one thing; waking up to breakfast by Rhona — let’s make that brunch, shall we, since mornings are spent drinking copious cups of freshly brewed Blue Mountain coffee or fresh juices — is another. Fruits are in abundance, and don’t get me started on the view of the Caribbean Sea — in fact, moving to the dining table becomes a herculean task.
Rhona Anderson is the woman charged with preparing meals at Bumper’s Nest. It’s no easy feat since she is competing with a home so magnificent that leaving it to go out — even for an hour — leaves one with serious withdrawal symptoms. Anderson, the resident chef of Bumper’s Nest for 45 years, is the archetypal grandmother whose larder you love to raid. She knows better than to compete with the understated opulence of the compound. Her food, drizzled with love, is as comforting and unpretentious as she is. Be warned: eating, drinking and lounging all day are encouraged.
