ITF Jamaica Junior singles finals on today
THE boys’ and girls’ 18 and under singles finals promise to be evenly contested as the 2015 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Jamaica International Junior Tennis Tournament continues at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre today at 9:00 am.
Second-seeded 17-year-old William Tutecky of Canada will face sixth-seeded 16-year-old Camilo Ugo Carabelli of Argentina in the boys’ 18 and under singles final.
Both reached today’s final when they won their semi-finals with Tutecky coming from a set down to win the next two sets easily 6-2, -61 against Vignesh Subramanyan of the US, while
Carabelli defeated third-seeded Olukayode Alafia Ayeni of the US in straight sets 6-4, 7-6.
Meanwhile, the girls’ 18 and under singles final will be contested between 16-year-old number one seed Karian Pierre-Louis of the US and 15-year-old second seed Rika Tanaka of Japan.
In their semi-finals played yesterday, Pierre-Louis defeated unseeded Salma Ewing of the US in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, while Tanaka brushed aside unseeded Najah Dawson of the US.
The boys’ 18 and under doubles final will be played between the unseeded pair of Andrew Fenty and Tristan McCormick of the US, against the third-seeded pair of Valentino Caratini and Camilo Carebelli of Argentina.
Fenty and McCormich received a walk over in their semi-final, while Caratini and Carabelli defeated the pair of Atilio Flores of Spain and Vignesh Subramanyan of the US.
The girls’ 18 and under doubles will be played between the pair of Elysia Bolton of the US and Y-Kit Nicole Tan of Singapore against Safiya Carrington and Kariann Pierre-Louis from the US.
Bolton and Tan defeated the fourth-seeded pair of Kiana Marshall of Barbados and Kianah Motosono of the US 6-1, 6-2, while the third-seeded pair of Carrington and Pierre-Louis defeated Najah Dawson and Salma Ewing of the US in their semi-finals yesterday.
Meanwhile, Damain Cain of Jamaica defeated Tariq Simons of Bermuda 5-4 (7-6 ), 3-5, 10-7 super tie-breaker to win the boys’ 14 and under consolation singles title, while Ashely Bersma beat Moesha Fox of Jamaica 4-0, 4-2 to win the girls’ 14 and under consolation singles title.
