Jamaican singles players ousted from ITF Junior Tourney
JAMAICAN players were all eliminated from the boys’ and girls’ 18 and under singles at the 2015 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Jamaica Junior International Tennis Tournament being played at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre, yesterday.
Third-round and doubles action begin today, starting at 9:00 am.
Jamaica’s last two remaining hopes, Andrew Bicknell and Allana Blackwood were beaten in second round matches. Bicknell was beaten by third-seeded Olukayade Alafia Ayeni of the United States (US) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, while Blackwood went down in three sets 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 to unseeded Kianah Motosano, also of the US in the girls’ 18 and under.
Top seed Salvador Mijares of Venezuela easily breezed past unseeded Alilto Jose Flores of Spain in straight sets 6-0, 6-2; second seed William Tutecky of Canada had to come from a set down before knocking out Andrew Fenty of the US 1-6, 6-2, 6-3; Fifth-seeded Morgan Dill of the US rushed past Brandon Tom of Trinidad and Tobago 6-1, 6-0; sixth-seeded Camillo Ugo Carabelli of Argentina defeated Tristan McCormack of the US 6-4, 6-3.
Other results in the boys’ 18 and under saw Edson Ortiz Tavar of Mexico beating Axel Geller of Argentina in three sets 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1; Vignesh Subramanyan of the US knocking out Dimitri Bird of the US 6-2, 6-3; Patrick Sydow of Aruba pulling through in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 against Joshua Turnquest of the Bahamas.
Meanwhile, three seeded players were produced in the girls’ 18 and under singles in the second round which saw Safya Carrington of the US knocking out fourth-seeded Ashley Zin Zhu of Canada, 6-4, 6-4; Najah Dawson of the US eliminating number eight seed Y-Kit Nicole Ton of Singapore 6-3, 6-0; Salma Ewing of the US ousting number six seed Jacqueline Pelletier of the US 7-5, 6-1.
In other results in the girls’ 18 and under singles, top seed Kariann Pierre-Louis of the US easily disposed of compatriot Elysia Bolton in straight sets 6-1, 6-2; second seed Rika Tanaka of Japan defeated Kianah Motosano of the US 6-1, 6-2; fifth-seeded Lillian Gabrielsen of Norway put away Brianna Tullough 6-1, 6-2; seventh-seeded Kiana Marshall of Barbados eliminated Alyssa Mayo of the US 6-2, 7-6 (7-2); Alexandra Sabe of US eliminated Regina Pitts 6-1, 6-4.
Meanwhile, in the boys’ 18 and under doubles, Vittorio Gianeserr of Ital and Christophy Grasel of Brazil defeated Alex Geller Getter of Argentina and William Tutecky of Canada 2-6, 7-6, 10-8.
Action in the girls’ 18 and under singles saw Alexandra Sabe of the US and Andrea Tudela of Panama defeating Maria Plakisa of Russia and Gabriella Tenorio of Brazil 1-6, 6-2, 10-6; Najah Dawson and Naiya Oden of the US crushing Anaelle Roch of Guadeloupe 6-1, 6-0.
