2nd Johnnie Walker Charity Golf Tourney returns for Diageo Learning for Life Programme
The Johnnie Walker Learning for Life Golf Classic returns for its second staging at the luxurious Tryall Club in Hanover between July 17-18.
The Golf Classic is a fundraiser for the Diageo Learning for Life programme. Last year’s charity event raised approximately $2.7 million and attracted many participants. This year, the plan is to double that amount, according to LeVaughn Flynn, Senior Communications Manager at Red Stripe.
“We managed to raise approximately $2.7 million at last year’s Johnnie Walker Golf Classic and we are aiming for $5 million this upcoming tournament,” Flynn said.
Since the inception of the Diageo Learning for Life programme, it has assisted in shaping the lives of thousands of underprivileged individuals by providing them with the skills and expertise needed to become employable. These Learning for Life graduates have gone on to add value to many businesses aiding in nation-building while encouraging others to be a part of the programme.
“The initiatives undertaken by the Diageo Learning for Life programme have grown tremendously over the years. As of 2014 the company has provided skills and training for over 11,000 students and the plan is to double that figure by 2020. The assistance from the Johnnie Walker Golf tournament will help us do so,” said Dianne Ashton-Smith, Head of Corporate Relations at Red Stripe.
At the inaugural Golf Classic, 90 participants took part in the two-day event which was dubbed by the players as the best local charity tournament ever staged.
The 2015 edition is looking to surpass the benchmark set last year by increasing the number of golfers, sponsors and monies raised. The tournament will commence on Friday, with practice rounds all day followed by a welcome reception at 7:00 pm. On Saturday the tournament will tee off at 8:00 am followed by an after-party and Awards Ceremony at 6:30 pm at the Beach Terrace.
The individual entry fee for the Johnnie Walker Learning for Life Golf Classic is US$200 and the team fee (four players) is US$800. Registration is currently underway.
