Jury returns not guilty verdict for ‘Rooksie’
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A jury today handed down a not guilty verdict for Uriel ‘Rooksie’ James, who was charged for the 1999 murder of security guard Errol McGeachy.
James is said to be the reputed gang leader of the Rose Town-based Discipline Gang in Kingston.
The 45-year-old businessman of Lonair Close in Kingston, was alleged to have murdered McGeachy, with the assistance of members of his gang.
It was alleged that McGeachy was murdered for refusing to purchase a gun from James.
Reports then were that on December 8, 1999, James and other members of his gang tied up and beat McGeachy at a yard in Rose Town, before sealing a plastic bag around his head and leaving him under the cellar of a house.
The men then reportedly returned for McGeachy, placed him in the trunk of a car and drove to Kingston Harbour where his body was said to have been dumped.
McGeachy’s body was found the following day floating in the vicinity of Kingston Ice Factory on Port Royal Street.
James was arrested and charged on May 4, 2011 for McGeachy’s death.
According to a post-mortem report, McGeachy’s death was caused by multiple blunt force injuries, especially to his chest and head.
