Golfer Wesley Brown back from tough USA Pro Series
Jamaica’s rising golfing star Wesley Brown has returned to the island following his first taste of international competition on the top-flight Swingthrough.com Pro Series Golf Tour in the United States.
The Jamaican ace had qualified for the Pro Series following a dominant performance in South Carolina Series last year, where he won a number of tournaments and leapt up the world rankings.
An elated Brown described the event as “a big step up in class. I had to play four day tournaments as well as two days of practice rounds, so it tested my level of fitness and my mental approach to the game. This is totally different from the tournaments we normally play.”
Brown said he struggled in his first set of tournaments as “the level of competition was very high and I had to travel every week and play in a number of different cities. It was tough.”
The golfer, who is sponsored by Sandals Resorts International and is a caddy at the Sandals Golf and Country Club, said he found his footing towards the end of the tour making the cut and producing some blistering play.
“I am really pleased with the way I finished the tour,” Brown noted. “It took a while for me to settle down and get used to the conditions and in the end I was really playing well.”
Brown said he made the cut in the final South Carolina event and received positive comments from fellow competitors about his level of play.
“I have to tweak my short game to compete with these guys. I also have to cut down on my mistakes. I made a lot of birdies, but I also made too many bogeys,” Brown added.
He is scheduled to depart the island again in August and will compete in four events as well as a qualifying event for the even tougher Web.com Pro Series. He is looking forward to a successful series.
Before that, however, Brown is scheduled to be in action this weekend in the Johnnie Walker Tournament at the Tryall Golf Club in Hanover.
