Fetto Desert’s ode to weed
SINCE late 2014 when the Jamaican government announced plans to ease restrictions on ganja use, several entertainers have hailed the move in song.
Among them is deejay Fetto Desert whose Ganja Man is an ode to the controversial plant’s benefits.
“It really looking at the goodness of the herb, the sickness it can cure and how we as Rasta use it fi religious purpose,” said Fetto Desert (real name Kalvin James) in a recent interview with the Jamaica Observer.
Though he welcomes the government’s ‘overdue’ steps to decriminalise aspects of ganja use, he does not see significant change anytime soon.
“It nah go free pon nuh wide scale but people going to use it more fi medicine,” he said.
Ganja Man is a comeback of sorts for the Manchester-born artiste who first recorded in 1997.
“Me’d get frustrated, ’cause people want yuh do songs an’ don’t waan put dem out. So mi jus’ stop an’ start sell mi craft ting dem,” he said.
Fetto Desert has other songs on the market including Read Jah Bible, Praise Jah, and Live and Wake Up, all done for his Genuine Personality label.
