St Elizabeth wanted man captured, found in ceiling of house
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — After approximately three weeks of intense search for Anward Hinds, who the police say is linked to at least seven murders here, he was Friday night captured in the neighbouring parish of Manchester.
Head of the St Elizabeth Police Division Superintendent Lanford Salmon told OBSERVER ONLINE that he was found about 8:15 pm at a house in Hatfield, and it took “some time” to get him from the ceiling.
He said that Hinds is now in police custody and among the charges expected to be made against him, are for the murders of four farmers who were brutally killed in Claremont, St Elizabeth, in May.
Police say Hinds is about 26 years old and is believed to be the leader of a gang, which is a remnant of the infamous Stone Crusher gang.
Salmon said that police intelligence has suggested that Hinds, also known as“Kirkie”, has association with a drugs-for-guns dealer and may have been en route to Haiti.
He said that the owner of the premises in Hatfield where the wanted man was found was not located, but is known to the police.
Salmon said that he is not aware that there is anyone in line for the J$1-million reward that was being offered to anyone who assisted in Hinds’ arrest.
