NHT awaits verification letter to process refund
Dear Claudienne
I am writing you on behalf of my husband (WL) who worked as a watchman at a primary school in St Thomas from 1977 to 2010 when he was fired. Since then he has been trying to get a refund of his NHT returns but is making no headway. The NHT has asked him to get a letter from the school where he worked but the school told him that they have no records. However, he was contributing to the NIS and NHT up to the time of his dismissal.
In 1995 he applied for his NHT refund and got a cheque for $122.08. When he got that refund he did not have his birth certificate as the RGD could not find the records of his birth. In 2010 he finally received his birth certificate and his TRN.
I would appreciate your help in this matter.
ML
Dear ML
We asked the NHT to investigate your husband’s situation. The NHT has responded to Tell Claudienne as follows:
“If an employer’s annual return does not have complete personal data on employees, such as NIS numbers and TRNs, employees are asked to submit a verification letter, along with their application for a refund of contributions. The letter allows the NHT to confirm the employee’s data and the contributions the employer remitted on his/her behalf.
Since receiving the matter, the Trust has contacted WL to assist him with obtaining the verification letter from his employer. The employer has received the request for the letter and has promised to have it ready as soon as possible. We hope to complete this business with WL by the end of July 2015.”
We will follow this up.
Good luck.
Dear Claudienne
Could you kindly assist me in provoking a response from the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) in regard to my request for a refund for an express birth certificate application I made online for a relative who resides in the United States?
When I made the online application, the RGD indicated that they could not provide the certificate since the surname of my relative was missing from the records. The RGD informed me that a late entry of name would have to be done. I have explained to the RGD that when the late entry of name process was explained to my relative she asked me to cancel the birth certificate application.
I cancelled the application and requested a refund of the fee. However, the RGD has not responded to my request for a refund of the application fee.
Could you kindly assist me to get the refund.
DM
Dear DM
Tell Claudienne has been in communication with the RGD about your request and we note that you received the refund on July 1. On July 1, 2015 we received the following e-mail from the RGD:
“The request from the customer, DM, was satisfied today. He received the necessary refund minus the service charge for work that was already done on the application. The customer did inform me that he was disappointed that he did not get a full refund of his fees but the relevant charges were explained to him.”
Since your relative asked you to make the application online for her birth certificate and then changed her mind when she learnt that a late entry of name application would have to be done, you could probably discuss with her whether she would be willing to pay you the amount the RGD said they extracted for service charge from the express fee you paid.
Good luck.
