Access Junior Tennis tourney starts today
One hundred and twenty of Jamaica’s top junior players will be in action at the Eric Bell Tennis Centre, Piccadilly Avenue, from today through to Sunday, competing for top honours in the Access All Jamaica Junior Tennis tournament 2015, which will be run by Tennis Jamaica.
Access Financial Services are the new sponsors of the tournament, which will see competition for boys and girls in the 18 and Under, 16 and Under, 14 and Under, 12 and Under and 10 and Under age groups. Associate sponsors are Hi-Lyte and King Alarm.
According to Deveta McLaren, marketing manager, Access Financial Services Ltd, “We are pleased to be on board as the new title sponsor of the All Jamaica Jr Tennis Championships. We see this sponsorship as an opportunity to support the development of youth tennis in Jamaica and an opportunity to support a sport which fosters discipline, commitment and focus. We are anticipating an exciting tournament as it involves some of Jamaica’s most promising tennis players representing several schools across Jamaica.”
Tournament director David Sanguinnetti said that he was encouraged by the large number of players who have registered for the tournament, and has predicted a high level of competition over the five days.
The tournament will be the first on the recently resurfaced and refurbished courts at the Eric Bell Centre, which now has a brand-new look. The courts are now painted blue. With the future in mind, Tennis Jamaica was able to secure the funds to refurbish not only the courts, but the court area, and Tennis Jamaica President John Bailey said that he was grateful to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) for their assistance with the funding of the project, which was a costly venture.
He also stated that

he was happy that the first event to take place on the new courts will be one of Tennis Jamaica’s premier junior tournaments, the Junior All Jamaica, as the emphasis at this time is on growing junior tennis.
Play will start at 9:00 am each day.
