A heart-healthy lifestyle includes the following, according to cardiologist Dr Claudine Lewis:
1. AEROBIC EXERCISE
This includes brisk walking, jogging, swimming, tennis, football for at least 150 minutes per week. You can do 30 minutes per day for five days, or 50 minutes per day for three days – whichever works best with your schedule.
2. HEART HEALTHY DIET
A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, and low in starches such as bread, flour, rice, and low in fats as well.
3. AVOIDING CIGARETTE SMOKING
4. KEEPING YOUR HYPERTENSION OR DIABETES WELL CONTROLLED if you have been diagnosed with any of these conditions.
