Artist Profile
Paige Taylor, a graduate of the St George’s College, is an impeccable visual communicator. Currently pursuing a bachelors of fine arts degree at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, his short-term goal is to complete his programme, with his long-term goal set at heading up his own organisation. His dislikes include bad and ineffective advertising. TA: What is the journey like majoring in art? It gets hard sometimes with the lecturers requirements and expectations, but with all that you stick with it because its obviously something you love so you’re willing to pull through it. You meet a lot of great people who often share your visions and are willing to encourage and support, so its a beautiful road to travel.TA: Did you always want to major in art? How did you start out? What was that journey like? For as long as i can remember. I’m talking about getting in trouble from as early as the third grade for sketching in class and stuff like that, its always been something that’s been with me and grown with me. When you do something often enough with enough passion it becomes a part of you, almost who you are. Same attitude continued into high school where most of my time was spent in the art department.TA: What makes you stand out from your competitor?I don’t see my peers as competitors, everyone has their own thoughts to bring out and I don’t think that’s something you compete with. Everyone should be comfortable doing what they love without worrying about being compared to someone else. However, what makes me stand out overall is just my delivery and finish when it comes onto my pieces, if it’s not ‘A-grade’ then I’m not comfortable.TA: What is your goal, what do you hope to achieve? I just don’t want to wake up one day and say “I wish i had continued doing what i love.” Way too often I sit back and watch people put comfort or fame over passion and I don’t want to be like that. My goal is to provide for everyone I love by doing what I love.TA: How do you come up with your concepts for your art pieces? I don’t really have a formula, it just sort of comes to me. Maybe you start sketching for fun and start to see something unfold or you see something around you that you want to bring light to.TA: How difficult is it to come up with a master piece?Like I said, you can start with a simple line on the right paper in the right position and it just comes to you. From then it sort of just takes over and you do it without even knowing it.TA: If you have an opportunity to make a change in the area of arts and culture, what would be your focus? For a country with a culture that the world is so fascinated by, I don’t believe the government does enough to bring out the talent that’s here. We all know this is one hell of a talented place everywhere you look there’s somebody is being innovative and creative. I’d just like that to be on the forefront for everyone to see, with the backing of the ‘higher ups’, just as much as they back the hotels and villas.

TA: What guidance would you give to a youngster wanting to pursue the same career as you? If you love it do it, don’t let anyone or anything deter your from what you want to do. This isn’t a field you enter with doubts. Believe me, I’ve seen people not make it through the first semester at my school because of that. The moment you’re sure it’s what you want you go after it.TA: Where can we find you?
