Popcorn, Anyone?
Whether you have finished your exams or waiting to start them, you have been spending much of your days dreaming about your summer vacation. Ah summer, those lazy days outside the classroom de-stressing from the grueling school year. You have probably thought about all those places you want to go and all the clothes you want to buy, or even all the books you want to read. However, your daydreams suddenly come to an end when you are hit with the realisation that you don’t have enough money for all your summer endeavours and you feel helpless. What do you do? Continue reading, we’ll teach you how to make the most of your summer without going bankrupt.1 Have a movie night– If you feel like watching a movie at a Palace Amusement cinema, it’s wise to watch it on the two-for-one days – the late showing on Mondays and the evening shows on Tuesdays. In order to save on food, it’s a good idea to eat before you go. Another cheap way to watch movies is to invite your friends over and watch it on your television. They could each come with popcorn or soda and you guys can have a good night enjoying the movie and each other’s company.2 Have a picnic– Going out to eat does not have to be expensive. Take advantages of the free places such as Devon House or Hope Gardens. Ask some of your friends to carry something to eat or something to drink. Gather a few blankets and head to one of those places and have a picnic. What’s better than eating food with good friends?3 Keep an eye out for special deals– It is not uncommon for restaurants to have special deals on meals. Make sure you keep your eyes on the social media wire to find out where and when, and just gather a group of your friends and go eat good food without breaking the bank.4 Keep an eye out for free/low cost events– We know it seems as though everything will cost an arm and a leg, however, this is not necessarily true. If you are vigilant you’ll see tons of free concerts from local artistes and a myriad of other free (or cheap) local events.5 Take a splash– The beach is one of the cheapest ways to spend the summer. Don’t take the beautiful island you live on for granted; most of the beaches in Jamaica are free or you pay a nominal entry free. Convince your friends or family to take a road trip one day this summer. Again, you could bring snacks and drinks so you don’t have to spend too much on food.6 Buy cheap books– Seems like all the tips are for extroverts? Don’t worry we didn’t forget those of you who like to keep to youreslves. You can buy cheap or get free books from Amazon.com. If you prefer physical books, you can also keep a look out for when the local bookstores have sales and take advantage of it. There are also book stores that sell used books at reduced prices. Don’t hesitate to check those out too.7 Take advantage of sales– Feel like you need new clothes and your pockets don’t seem to be cooperating with you? Fret not. There are tons of sales in the summer, you’ll more than likely find great items on the sale rack. Lo and behold, your clothes woes are over.8 Stay connected with teenAGE– Like teenAGE Observer on Facebook, and follow us on Instagram and Twitter this summer.
