Moncriffe takes aim at Bowen for place in Contender Series semis
DEVON Moncriffe and Jermaine Bowen will battle for the last semi-final place in the 2015 Wray & Nephew White Overproof Rum Contender Boxing Series at the Chinese Benevolent Association Auditorium tonight.
The three-fight programme will open with two amateur three-round bouts at 8:30 pm with the main event featuring Moncriffe and Bowen scheduled to begin at approximately 9:45 pm.
The clash is expected to generate much excitement as Bowen was initially replaced by Guyanese Edmund DeClou after it was said that he had failed to recover from an injury sustained while in training for the fight.
However, after much debate as to his fitness, he was reinstated at the final hour to take his rightful place in the Contender series to vie for a semi-final berth.
Moncriffe made it abundantly clear that he is fixed in his endeavour to get another bite of the cherry. “I have stepped up my training and am prepared to fight anyone as I am in good fighting shape at present. So it does not matter who they put me in the ring with. I am put in there to fight and I am ready to fight,” he said emphatically.
To reach this stage of the Contender series, Moncriffe defeated New York-based Courtney Pennington in the first stage.
Bowen had defeated Trinidadian debutant Duke Brooks in the first preliminary stage of the four-stage contest to advance.
