Mico honours Packer, Miller
THE Mico University College on Thursday hosted a cocktail reception in honour of rertired president Professor Claude Packer and outgoing chancellor Professor Errol Miller for their years of service and contributuion to the instituion.
Professor Packer has been president for the past 19 years, while Miller has been chancellor for six years.
Chair of the Lady Mico Trust, Reverend Rachel Benson, who took over from Henry Buxton last year, was also recognised at the function, held Thursday night at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.
It was possibly the last official function in the cpacity of pro-chancellor for the event chair, Dr R Karl James, in that capacity. He is expected to be installed as chancellor at the beginning of the coming school year.
Meanwhile, current principal of Sam Sharpe Teacher’s College Dr Asburn Pinnock will take the helm of Mico at the start of the school year.
The Mico University College is the oldest teacher training institution in the Western Hemisphere beign in operation for over 175 years.
The Jamaica Parliament granted the institution University College status in July 2006, which authorises it to offer undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.
