Faulkland FC, Mountain Villa promoted to St J FA Senior League
FAULKLAND FC who gained promotion in back-to-back seasons, and Mountain Villa will play in the St James Football Association’s Sandals/ATL Senior League next season, after qualifying for the finals of the Sandals/ATL Division One last weekend.
Faulkland FC who were promoted from the Division Two last year after finishing second to Somerton FC, got by Club Stars 4-3 on aggregate, while Mountain Villa qualified after beating Copperwood 3-1, also on aggregate.
The finals will be played on June 5 and 12 at Jarrett Park, along with the Senior League finals between Melbourne FC and Reggae Youths.
In Saturday’s return legs played at Jarrett Park, Club Stars just failed to overturn a first-leg 2-0 deficit, beating Faulkland FC 3-2, while Mountain Villa had a 1-0 win over Copperwood FC.
After leading 2-0 in the the first leg, Faulkland FC were rocked back on their heels by a Club Stars team that tried to make up for wasting numerous scoring chances in the first leg.
An own goal in the 36th minute gave Faulkland FC an early lead on the day and a 3-0 advantage, but Delroy Leslie finally got Club Stars on the score sheet when he scored in the 43rd minute.
Faulkland FC restored their three- goal lead in the 58th minute through Jelani Nicholson, but Club Stars got two quick goals from Junior Higgings in the 61st and Leslie again in the 66th minute to put them under pressure.
A red card to Faulkland FC’s goalkeeper Jamario Hines in the 82nd minute, after he picked up his second yellow card of the game, made for an interesting final eight minutes.
In the first game, Terrie Thompson’s 88th-minute penalty conversion was the only goal of the game as Mountain Villa cruised to their first final.
