Jamalco make it 11 straight in SVL Major League netball
JAMALCO chalked up their 11th consecutive win with a convincing 62-49 result over Waulgrovians ‘A’ as the 2015 Netball Jamaica (NJ)/Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) Major League netball competition continued at the Leila Robinson Courts last Saturday.
Jamalco lead with 55 points from 11 matches, followed by Mico ‘A’ with 50 from 11, Molynes United ‘A’ with 45 from 11, Waulgrovians ‘A’ with 45 from 12, Blades United ‘A’ have 40 from 11, Mico ‘B’ have 38 from 12, Tivoli ‘A’ with 36 from 11, Waulgrovians ‘B’ with 31 from 12, Cablepro with 27 from 12, Police ‘A’ have 21 from 12, Alpha ‘A’ with 17 from 12, Liguanea United ‘A’ with seven from 12, Friendship follow with five from 12, and Jetsetters ‘A’ with just one point from 11 matches.
Meanwhile, the Winston Nevers-coached, Clarendon-based aggregation is also the only unbeaten team in the Major League where they have qualified for the semi-finals.
Nevers said the players are gelling extremely well together, especially the younger ones.
He said despite Jamalco presently on a winning streak, the players should not be too over-confident as there are still the semi-finals and final, and at least five good teams have chances of winning the title.
Jamalco led Waulgrovians ‘A’ in the first quarter 17-11, 33-23 at half-time, and 53-31 at the end of the third quarter, before pulling away for the convincing 62-49 win.
Marsha Murphy-Dawkins scored 37 goals from 47 attempts, and Elaine Davis, scored 23 goals from 25 attempts for Jamalco, while for Waulgrovians ‘A’ Priscilla Thomas got 23 from 28, and Taishia Pryce added 18 from 24 attempts.
Mico ‘A’ beat Molynes United ‘A’ 33-25 with scores of 9-8, 19-13, and 26-19. Scoring for Mico ‘A’ were Taniel Roberts with 21 goals from 26 attempts, and Stephanie Anderson with 12 from 18, while for Molynes, Phyllis Thompson got 15 from 24 and Saffon Knight added 10 from 14 tries.
Blades United ‘A’ outscored Alpha ‘A’ 54-39 after quarterly scores of 13-11, 24-20, and 39-30. Shauna Jones scored 30 goals from 34 attempts and Flevet Thomas added 24 from 34 for Blades ‘A’, while Nathalie Grant netted 33 goals from 34 attempts for Alpha ‘A’.
Mico ‘B’ whipped Liguanea United ‘B’ 52-28 with quarterly scores of 16-7, 31-14, and 44-19. Danielle Masters netted 38 goals from 42 attempts for Mico ‘A’, while Tabitha Nelson with 17 from 25 and Tashlieka Laird with 11 from 22 for Liguanea ‘A’.
Waulgrovians ‘B’ cruised past Friendship 55-36. Hasana Williams scored 33 goals from 36 attempts and Tishauna Daley added 22 from 30 for Waulgrovians ‘B’, while Shian Gonzales got 18 from 21 and Denese Palmer netted 14 from 15 for Friendship.
Tivoli ‘A’ held off Cablepro to win narrowly 46-43 with shooter Cleopatra Grant scoring 37 goals from 41 attempts, while Rashena Vassell got 34 goals from 40 attempts for Cablepro.
Police ‘A’ defeated Jetsetters ‘A’ 42-34, as Neisha Howard scored 30 goals from 40 attempts and Marcella Thompson with 12 from 20, while Annette Miller got 18 from 31, and Nordia White with 13 from 24 efforts.
