Facey, Newnham square off in Seafreight Amateur Golf Championships
On the first day of what was predicted to be a competitive event, Jamaica’s best golfers turned out for the only four-day event on the golfing calendar.
The top scorers brought their best game, with the result that Hoerman Cup representatives Ian Facey and Jonathan Newnham are in front, tied on 74. O’Shae Haye and Sean Morris are tied in second with 75. Wayne Chai Chong, Sean Green and Paul Seaton are in third with 76. Last year’s champion, Dr Mark Newnham, finished with 79 on the first day.
In the 7-11 category, George Hugh is ahead of the other players in his category with 78 stokes, followed by Dr Carl Bruce with 80. Stainton Baker finished third.
Clifton Johnson is leading the Men 12-17 group and Eric Gagnon finished the day in second position.
JGA President Peter Chin shot 77, which puts him at the front of the Super Senior group. Michael Boyd and Michael Dunbar are second with 78. Gordon Hutchinson finished the day with 79.
Carlysle Hudson is leading the 13-18 category and Bert Tomlinson is in second. John Hayletts is third.
Tiana Cruz leads the charge in the ladies section with 76, earning three birdies along the way. Second is Kei Harris with 79, and Michele Gabay is in third.
In the ladies 13-24 category, Murine Blake is leading with 97 shots, followed by Diane Hudson and Valerie Grant.
The Championships continue today at 7:30 am.
