Artist Profile
Amber Pinkerton (AP) is anything but the typical teenAGE photographer. Filled with passion, charisma and style, she is one who embraces her uniqueness with arms wide open. Intrigued with art and the world itself, she sees herself creating a net of positivity and change. Her primary goals with art are to create films that will change people’s life. “I want to contribute to meliorism and the slow pace of an evolutionary society. I want to evoke the raw emotions out of the coldest being and make that person change himself” she told teenAGE Observer.teenAGE (TA) we spoke about how she got started, her approach on set as well as her inspirations. So much was the expression of Amber that we had no choice but to run a two-part piece, so here’s Part 1 of Keeping up with Amber Pinkerton:AP: Yes I do remember some of the first things I drew, sculpted, painted and photographed because they all looked hideous! I’m not sure what the first thing I drew is, but I have this faint memory of a drawing I did in kindergarten at Hillel Academy of my family and I in front of our house. The paper had been smothered in yellow and purple crayons. With painting, the funny thing is, I’d always told myself I couldn’t paint at all, and so I always avoided it. Until one day I started watching YouTube videos on painting, and started experimenting with watercolour. My paintings started turning out great! Then I thought I couldn’t paint with acrylic, but it is now my favourite material.AP: I actually love to sit down sometimes and play the piano. I never got lessons or anything, I just sit down and figure out the keys to play a certain song; then I start singing and it gets tragic! I also love playing badminton endlessly since my days of going to summer camp in prep school. On Saturdays, I sit down and create outfits to wear as well.TA: Do you have a favorite artist? If yes, what draws you to that person’s work?Twitter and Instagram @ambercashmere, as well as on Facebook at Pink.Photography.

TA: Can you remember some of the first things you drew/sculpted/painted/photographed etc? What makes them memorable?
TA: Art aside, do you have any other interesting hobbies?
AP: I don’t have a favourite artist, but I really do love James Cooper, Luigi Murenu, and majority of the artists in the ARC Magazines such as Arthur Simms or ‘booops’. They’re incredible! I’m drawn to these people mostly because of the appearance of their work. They’re all so clean and have a finished look. They also have some weird characteristics about them that I like. With these artists, I get to fully understand their visions by reading about their intents in their pieces and so forth.
TA: What do you think sets you apart from the other young photographers out there?
AP: I think what sets me apart is my passion and sticking with my love. I possess a self-belief that I will one day be at the top of my game. I do it because I love it, and I am true to myself in times when the standard of my work has failed. I am also true to myself in the concepts and material I like, and I stick to them.
