JMMB commits to football coaching education for sixth year
FOLLOWING on the staging of an Advanced Level One Coaching Course in St James recently, the JFF staged another Advanced Level One Coaching Course which began yesterday at the JFF Football Centre at the UWI, Mona.
Twenty-five coaches drawn mainly from clubs and schools have registered to take part in the course which will include topics as Coaching Methods and Styles; Technique Development; Planning and Preparing for the Training session; Grassroots Development and Systems of Play. The Science Module includes Anatomy; Fitness Development Theory; The Young Athlete and the Female Athlete.
The course will also include a one-day transformational training seminar engaging the coaches to tap into their talent, fuel their passion and empower their lives.
Increasingly, a number of past players are showing interest in the coaching profession with Fabian Taylor and Kevin Lamey, past national players being in this group of applicants.
The implementation of the coaching licensing system in September 2015 means that all football coaches will have to be certified.
The instructors for the course include JFF’s director of football, Vin Blaine; JFF youth coordinator, Wendell Downswell; JFF fitness coach, Andre Waugh; Member of the JFF medical team, Dr Derrick McDowell and National Under-17 coach Andrew Edwards, who is a new addition to the instructor core.
The instructors also include a number of lecturers from the University of Technology.
The Joan Duncan Foundation, a part of the JMMB family, has sponsored the coaching programme for the sixth consecutive year.
The course will run over six weekends on Saturday and Sunday (excluding the first weekend when it started on the Friday).
This course will be followed by an Advanced Level Two Course in July and a series of refresher courses in August.
