Osbourne happy with second shot at old foe Planter
WHAT has so far been a disappointing preliminary first stage of the 2015 Wray & Nephew’s fifth contender boxing series promises to offer greater fist-to-fist combat between old foes Ricardo Planter and Anthony Osbourne when action in the White Overproof Rum-sponsored series continues at the Chinese Benevolent Association auditorium tonight at 8:30.
The rematch between Planter and Osbourne is about settling scores. This, therefore, promises to up-tempo the preliminaries from a plethora of hugging and grabbing to a match of tagging and flogging as they renew their rivalry inside the “Square Circle” for this seventh of eight bouts at the preliminary stage of the four-stage championship.
Box-off for the main event between Planter and Osbourne is scheduled approximately 9:45 pm, with one of the two three-round amateur bouts carded opening the three-fight card programme at approximately 8:30 pm.
Osbourne, the lone Jamaican boxer on Team Caribbean — a replacement for original candidate Winston Pompey — has a victory against Planter and believes that at 39 he still possesses the tools to get the job done against his younger foe at 34.
Osbourne was elated when the opportunity presented itself for his participation following his earlier disappointment ar not being among the preferred few.
“I was disappointed when I was not chosen for this year’s competition (at first), but I am happy that I have been chosen now. You can’t keep a good man down,” he said.
Osbourne has expressed confidence in his the ability to beat Planter. “I am feeling great about the upcoming fight. I fought him already and won and there is a strong possibility that I can defeat him again.”
Lightning does not always strike the same place, but Osbourne said “I will do my best” in his efforts to defeat Planter again.
Planter, whose objective is to give Team Jamaica their sixth success, seemed to be more focused on getting a positive result from the clash for which he was gearing up the past three months.
“I am fully prepared… I have been training for the last three months and have no doubt that I will win. This time I am going to defeat him,” Planter said confidently.
