Holmes takes on Bajan Estwick in Contender Boxing
THE battle for qualifying places into the second stage of the 2015 Wray & Nephew White Overproof Contender Boxing Series fifth staging continues tonight when local boy Richard ‘Frog’ Holmes and Barbadian Charwin Estwick battle in the premier three-fight event at the Chinese Benevolent Association (CBA) auditorium, starting at 8:30 pm.
The amateurs will begin the evening’s entertainment with two fights. This will be followed by a gift-giving floorshow by the main sponsors Wray & Nephew. The main event between the middleweight boxers should begin at approximately 9:45 pm.
Holmes is representing Team Jamaica and his aim is to give his team their fifth win of the eight-fight preliminary stage.
Holmes 27, a veteran of the Wray & Nephew Series with three consecutive appearances, at his age, is supposed to be at the peak of his powers and is tipped to make light work of the Contender debutante.
He stands at five feet, eight and a half inches with a ring record of 6 wins and 4 losses from 10 fights. Estwick, 34, stands at five feet, five inches and has lost his only professional fight.
In spite of Estwick’s limited experience, the Bajan is regarded as a good body puncher and this should bring some excitement to the affair. Holmes is known to be able to take a good punch on the chin and stand his ground, but body punches could push him in uncharted territory.
