Third round of Senior Cup postponed
THE Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) has announced that third-round matches in the two-day Senior Cup will be postponed this weekend, to show respect for deceased JCA director Osmond Dann, whose funeral will be held today.
A full slate of matches across the competition’s five zones were originally set to start today at several venues around the island.
The rescheduled games will be played in May.
An electronic communiqué sent from JCA chief executive officer Courtney Francis on Wednesday, said:
“As a mark of respect for the life of former JCA Director Osmond Dann, the JCA Board of Directors effected the postponement of all JCA-administered programmes and events for Saturday, 18th April, 2015… in particular, to postpone the third round of the JCA Senior Cup competition. This round of matches will be played on the weekend of May 9 and 10, 2015.”
The funeral service for Dann, who was also the JCA second vice-president at the time of his death, will be at the Spanish Town Cathedral in the St Catherine capital, starting at 1:00 pm.
The interment will take place at Dovecot.
Dann is said to have died in the United States after he fell ill and flew there for medical assistance.
More recently, the JCA lost another board member. Cleveland Keddo, a former vice-president, who was appointed a lifetime member at the JCA’s annual general meeting on February 17, passed away at his home in Westmoreland.
