Phelicia Dell for CFW
HAITIAN designer Phelicia Dell will be presenting her art-inspired Vèvè Collection at Caribbean Fashionweek’s (CFW’s)15th anniversary staging in June.
Conceptualised by Pulse’s CEO Kingsley Cooper, CFW is is scheduled for June 6-15 and is expected to showcase the region’s finest.
A classic craftswoman, Dell’s roots are deeply based in the rich art and spiritual tradition of her country.
She describes her Vèvè Collection for the Jamaica Observer.
“The Vèvè Collection represents a synthesis of majestic and mystical traits with a logic that stands for originality, authenticity that characterise its distinctive nature,” she said.
Launched in 2006, the collection began with cocktail dresses but would later include handbags and accessories.
Two years later, she he participated in the Diane von Furstenberg (DVF) Global Handbag Design Competition.
With entries from Haiti, Guatemala, Nigeria and Cambodia, Dell won the competition and was recognised as the best emerging handbag designer for 2009.
She has used her award to develop her label while providing support of emerging Haitian talent. In 2010, Dell was among Newsweek magazine’s 100 most influential women.
