Blu Lyon roars on Bad
HIS father is respected Trinidadian Calypsonian Austin ‘Super Blue’ Lyons, while his sister is singer Fay Ann Lyons, one of the hottest names in contemporary soca.
A career in music seemed inevitable for deejay Blu Lyon.
Blu Lyon is currently in Jamaica doing the promotional rounds as well as shooting a video for his latest single, Bad. During the next three weeks, he plans to release videos for two other songs, Magic and Celestial Feelings.
Tomorrow, he is scheduled to perform on Clarendon Tun Up at the Hayes All-Age and Junior High School.
Despite his calypso/soca lineage, Blu Lyon said he has always had diverse tastes.
“From an early age I was exposed to different musical influences, both American and West Indian cultures. Growing up in Trinidad I saw an influx of music from which I developed an appreciation, and my gradual interest in pursuing music professionally was enhanced,” he explained.
Relocating to Queens, New York as a teenager, he developed his writing by fusing rap with dancehall and learned about music production. Lyon attended the Queens Borough Community College where he earned a degree in Music Electronic Technology and Business.
After his first reggae song, Poor No More, got some traction on YouTube, he released a dancehall mix tape called Big Business and opened shows for acts like Bermudian singer Collie Buddz.
He recently worked with Beatmania Productions on his Charge Up mix tape, which features Dexta Daps, singer Ky-enie and Lady Ali. The video for the single, Neva Figet Dem, premiered locally on HYPE TV.
