FLOW hosts Westeros-themed premier of HBO hit, Game of Thrones
Season 5 Premiers with fanfare and excitement for scores of loyal fans in Kingston
Kingston Jamaica, April 13, 2015:
The draw-bridge entry way, with the theme music piping through a dimly lit eerie tunnel, was just the beginning of what was to come on Sunday night at the transformed Pegasus Gardens in Kingston, as Game of Thrones (GoT) fans and Flow customers filed in, by the dozens, to watch the season 5 premier of the HBO smash hit original series.
According to Flow, Jamaica’s full service telecommunications provider, the location was a perfect canvas for an ode to the new season and popular storylines from the previous season. One section of the gardens, which was used as the cocktail area was expertly transformed to mirror Kings Landing, the capital of Westeros, on the occasion of the wedding of the much-hated King Joffery. Westeros is the fictitious continent where most of the action of the series takes place.
This space, which was the patrons’ first stop on the fantasy journey had ornate décor elements including sigils, swords, daggers and candelabras. Live snakes, belly dancing wenches, fire breathers, pork servings, lemon cakes and wine, along with the excited chatter of the guests brought the Purple Wedding – as it also known – to life as the Flow set out to pay tribute to the popular series, while giving their guests a memorable time.
“After last year our customers were demanding it. It is a lovely event and it’s really special when we can bring together like-minded people who are fans of the same series and provide them with an experience,” explained Yanique Forbes-Patrick, marketing manager, Flow.
“It is our pleasure to provide our customers with the content they want and if we can bring that content to life, it’s a win win for the customers and for us,” she continued.
The audience was kept engaged by Christopher ‘Johnny’ Daley, who guided the proceedings along with a treasure hunt, social media competition as well as GoT trivia. Prizes on offer included the iron throne replica, GoT branded beer glasses, miniature dragon and dolls of the series characters.
Fans were also able to take pictures of themselves holding GoT paraphernalia in the photo booth.
The popular and much talked about series is viewed in over 192 countries around the world. The fifth season of was filmed in Croatia, Spain and Ireland on 151 sets over 240 days of production. This season – composed of ten, hour-long episodes – includes the participation of 166 actors, over 1,000 cast and crew members, and 5,000 extras.
