JLP, yuh look small!

Well, well, the US President has come and gone. There was a lot of chatter during the preparations regarding whether it was an official visit or not, whether the leader of the Opposition would be included in the activities, whether it was fair to put on such an expensive ‘front page’, and whether vagrants and sidewalk sellers should have been removed or not.
Well, well, the US President has come and gone. There was a lot of chatter during the preparations regarding whether it was an official visit or not, whether the leader of the Opposition would be included in the activities, whether it was fair to put on such an expensive ‘front page’, and whether vagrants and sidewalk sellers should have been removed or not.
Fair is fair. This Administration and our security forces put on a helluva show in hosting the esteemed president. The visit was a whopping delight and success. Everybody could feel the love and euphoria was evident everywhere. The US Ambassador heaped high praises and remarked that they were very, very touched by the outpouring of love and magnificence. The White House and State Department said the level of preparation was an absolute delight. I especially liked the cool vibes and the very appropriate and important questions that were posed by the young people at the town hall meeting at the UWI. That was the high point for me. All over the social media there are congratulatory messages from every corner and political persuasion. Many of us who sometimes come down hard on this Administration took a break and ‘manned up’ to give kudos where it was due.
I have to say this because there happens to be the giant elephant in the room. The Jamaica Labour Party looks very small in their silence regarding what just happened here. Even if you can’t bring yourself to say the prime minister led a team that pulled off a successful visit, at least you could say you are proud that Jamaica executed a jolly good show. Don’t stifle your conscience; even if you do it late, say something because, otherwise, honestly, JLP, yuh look small!
