Luciano steps up to the plate
WITH the death of Garnet Silk in December 1994, roots-reggae badly needed an hero. Luciano seemed to fit the bill and he delivered a gem in Where There is Life, his fourth album.
The set was produced by Philip ‘Fatis’ Burrell, whose Xterminator label was on a roll in 1995, the year Where There is Life was released.
It was distributed by Island Jamaica Records, an affilate of Island Records that also had Beenie Man, Yami Bolo and Spanner Banner on its books.
Where There is Life was a hit machine. Lord Give me Strength and It’s me Again Jah were anthems; Who Could It Be, Your World And Mine, Good God, There’s No Love In The World, Heaven Help Us All and In This Together (with Louie Culture and Terror Fabulous) all rocked the dancehall.
Luciano’s best, and most creative album, by some distance.
