Granville secure third semi-final spot
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former champions and last year’s losing finalists Granville FC secured the third semi-final place in the Jamaica Football Federation/Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League after a 2-0 win over another former champion, Wadadah FC, at the UDC Field yesterday.
Goals from Rodney Hines and Jermaine Jackson gave Granville FC their second win over their St James rivals this year and improved to 42 points to join Sandals Whitehouse and Savannah SC in the top four.
The loss, while a setback for Wadadah FC, is not a death knell as they are on 39 points and still lead fifth-placed Montego Bay Boys Club by seven points, and need only to win one of two remaining games to secure their place.
Wadadah FC missed the semi-finals last year and will be hoping to atone.
Meanwhile, the game between Jericho Rangers and Beaches Negril set for Long Bay Beach Park was rained out.
