No kidding for Jenny Jenny
TO those who follow the entertainment beat, Jennifer ‘Jenny Jenny’ Small is known as the bubbly host of Hitz 92 FM early-morning Blast Off Show and popular emcee for live events.
For the past two years, she has operated Small Treasures Child Care, which has locations at Caribbean Estate in Portmore, St Catherine, and Lady Musgrave Road in St Andrew.
The early childhood company has a staff of almost 40 and caters to children three months to six years-old.
On Wednesday when Splash visited the Lady Musgrave Road branch, most of the 100 ‘students’ were fresh from their afternoon nap. Others enjoyed ring games with their designated ‘Aunties’.
Small said she was inspired to open the centres by a young one close to home.
“The thought came about when I was pregnant with my daughter. I knew she had to go to daycare but I really didn’t see an appropriate one.
There are instances where people would use grills to make cribs and that’s not right,” she explained.
She told Splash that she gathered a select team, which included an accountant and attorney and spent weeks planning to get the project off the ground.
“You can’t go wrong when you offer good service. Everything has to be intact as the environment should be child-friendly. Also, my heart is in it as I love children, so it’s not just a money-making project for me. My daughter attends this school,” she explained.
Small, who is a trained educator, says she employs only certified child-care specialists with expertise in Spanish, dancing, music, karate and swimming lessons.
She stressed her intolerance of unprofessionalism in a field that requires constant monitoring.
Although she has a tight media schedule, the 42-year-old broadcaster still makes time to bond with her ‘little ones’ daily.
Before going into radio, Small worked as a language arts, literature and history teacher.
