Full house for Destiny premiere
DESTINY continued its historical run at the Miramar Cultural Center in Miramar, Florida, on Monday.
Hosted by Miramar’s vice mayor Yvette Colbourne and organised by Riddims Marketing, Inc, Destiny had a capacity-filled theatre at its premiere.
At the VIP reception sponsored by the Jamaica Tourist Board, Colbourne congratulated Destiny’s producer/director, Jeremy Whittaker, for the production and bringing the film to Florida.
Whittaker stated that the response received from the diaspora was overwhelming.
“Premiering to a sold out audience spoke volumes for the future of Jamaican films and also provided a good indication of the support the film should receive when it opens across the US in the coming weeks,” said Whittaker.
Destiny is scheduled to open to general audiences in select theatres in New York, South Florida, Chicago, Atlanta, DC and Hartford.
Costing just under US$1 million, Destiny was shot in Jamaica with additional footage in Canada. The plot is based on Lisa (played by Jamaica-born, Canada-based Karian Sang) who visits Jamaica from Toronto, Canada, to sell her family’s estate. She gets involved with Sean, a recording artiste (played by singer Christopher Martin), and reconnects with her family.
