Drewsland sizzler
LAST season’s beaten finalists Waterhouse FC will look to confirm a spot in the semi-finals of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) when they face fellow last-four aspirants Humble Lion FC today at the Drewsland Stadium.
The game is set to begin at 6:00 pm.
Waterhouse, comfortably perched in second place on 51 points from 29 matches, can be assured of progression if they win and other results end in their favour. Even if they lose, the St Andrew-based club has three further matchdays to seal that place
Fourth-placed Humble Lion, who have 46 points, are also in contention. A win for the visitors from Clarendon could see them tighten their grip on that final spot.
At the Juici Park in Clarendon, the visitors Reno FC take on Sporting Central FC in a 3:30 pm clash between teams struggling towards the lower end of the 12-team RSPL standings.
Reno, though having the league’s top marksman Craig Foster, who has notched 19 goals this campaign, are in relegation mire. They currently rest in 11th place with 27 points, five adrift of 10th-placed Sporting Central.
At 6:30, fifth-placed Harbour View FC (43 points), desperate to climb into a top four position, take on Kingston & St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) rivals Boys’ Town FC at the Harbour View Stadium.
Boys’ Town, unbeaten in their last six games, have gradually pulled away from relegation threat. They have 34 points and lie in ninth place.
In a 4:00 pm kick-off at Stadium East, the mid-table pair of Cavalier SC and Tivoli Gardens FC lock horns. Hosts Cavalier are seventh with 40 points, while Tivoli Gardens are sixth with 41.
At the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, runaway preliminary stage leaders Arnett Gardens FC, who have already sealed their progression to the semi-finals, welcome eighth-placed Rivoli United for a 6:00 pm contest.
Arnett have 57 points, while Rivoli are way behind on 37 points.
The Barbican FC versus Montego Bay United encounter at the Barbican Sports Complex is postponed and will instead be played on Thursday. Barbican, in last place on 24 points, appear doomed to become one of the two teams to be demoted this season. Reigning champions Montego Bay have 49 points for third place and are on the brink of assuring a place to the semis.
There will be no Monday Night action on this matchday because the Jamaica senior Reggae Boyz are slated to host neighbours Cuba at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in St James.
