PrP Therapy & More
MARIE Hall-Smith, managing director of the award-winning Face Place Spa, continues to afford her clients cause to celebrate ‘beauty’. Monday last, customers were introduced to Simone Van-Horne, MD, CEO, Metamorphosis Medispa & Wellness Centre Inc, Hollywood, Florida by Hall-Smith who asked Van-Horne to meet with a few of her clients.
In between sips of Sangster’s Jamaica Rum Cream coconut, banana, rum & raisin, and coffee-flavoured mixes there was lots to learn. Your Under The Dryer glam squad was up front and centre.
Under The Dryer (UTD): Break it down for us, what is PrP therapy and what are the processes involved?
Simone Van-Horne (SVH): Platelet-rich Plasma therapy is essentially using your body’s natural ability to heal itself. The body has stem cells circulating around ready to respond to any trauma. These cells can transform into any cell required in that instant. PrP mimics that process by injecting activated stem cells and all the signals that activate them; they become whatever is needed. In skin collagen, elastin, new skin cells become more robust and healthier, giving a glow. The wrinkles soften and with continued treatments one can reverse that aging process by replacing what has been lost with age.
UTD: How long has PrP therapy been around?
SVH: This was first used in 1987, after open-heart surgery to get rapid healing in the surgical wound. Thereafter, the orthopaedic specialty used it almost exclusively in bone, joint and tendon healing to promote faster bone growth, especially in the elderly and in professional sportsmen and women.
UTD: Are there any guarantees that PrP therapy will combat said ailments?
SVH: It guarantees improvements. The degree of the response depends on the individual’s immune system, as we are using the individual’s innate ability to heal himself.
UTD: How does one qualify for PrP therapy? What are the requirements?
SVH: The healthier one is, the more “able” one’s immune system is. Hence, the intense debate over foetal stem cell use as a cure for disease. As long as one does not have active infection, a bleeding disorder, liver disease, auto-immune disease and is not actually undergoing chemotherapy for cancer treatment.
UTD: What are the ailments that PrP therapy is expected to combat?
SVH: Joint issues in the following areas:
* Spine
* Shoulders
* Elbows
* Wrist & Hand
* Hip/Pelvis/SI joints
* Knee
* Lower leg
* Ankle & Foot
* Arthritic joints
* Plantar Fascitis
* Burns
* Wound healing
* Hair loss – this can be done with our medical spa
* Aesthetics – also can be done by our spa reverse wrinkle formation, increase the plumpness of skin and return some of the fat, collagen, elastin and to increase superficial cell turnover and replacement to decrease the dull appearance of skin, acne scarring, sun damage and general age spots.
UTD: When does one start to see results?
SVH: Within a month one will see results. Then results will continue over a three-month period.
We suggest repeating three times to get desired results. Once those results occur, do it annually to maintain the cell’s ability to continue to function at a high level.
UTD: What is the role of Metamorphosis Medispa in PrP therapy and how did you get involved?
SVH: Our role would be for aesthetics and hair loss. Our involvement is really to combine medicine with both looking better and feeling better and to allow those two aspects to synchronise. It is the mandate of our medical spa.
