Draw with MoBay moves Sporting four points clear of drop zone
SPORTING Central Academy moved four points clear of the Red Stripe Premier League relegation zone following a 1-1 stalemate with Montego Bay United at Juici Park yesterday.
Sporting took the lead in the 50th minute when Kemar Reid played through Cory Hylton, who outpaced his marker before slotting past Jacomeno Barrett in goal for the visitors.
Montego Bay United equalised on 64 minutes when Fabian McCarthy stroked home from the penalty spot after Sporting defender Oneil Rose had brought down his opponent just one minute after entering the field as a substitute.
Both sides went for the winner in the dying moments of the contest but failed to make a breakthrough despite creating numerous openings.
The result means defending champions Montego Bay stayed third on 48 points, while Sporting Central, with 31 points, inched clear of the 11th-placed Reno FC, who play league leaders Arnett Gardens in the Monday night fixture at the Tony Spalding Complex.
