Duckie’s Lions go east in search of semi-final berth
FOURTH-PLACED Humble Lion FC and fifth-placed Tivoli Gardens FC directly square off in Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) action today as teams continue the battle for semi-final berths.
The Harbour View Mini-Stadium will be the venue with kick-off set for 6:30 pm.
Clarendon-based Humble Lion, who have hardly put a foot wrong since acquiring the services of head coach Donovan Duckie toward the back end of the preliminary phase of the campaign, have 42 points from 27 games.
Harbour View, located in east St Andrew, have lost three of their last five games, and are on 40 points, only two points behind Humble Lion.
The recently appointed interim coaching staff at Harbour View, led by Ludlow Bernard, began life in charge of the senior team with back-to-back wins before falling 0-1 to RSPL holders Montego Bay United last time out. They will know that a win over Humble Lion will thrust them into fourth spot.
At Stadium East, two teams with outside chances of making it into the top four will clash.
Hosts Cavalier SC, who are eighth in the RSPL preliminary round with 34 points, face seventh-placed Rivoli United (37 points) in a game scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm.
At 3:30 pm, 10th-placed Sporting Central FC (30 points) welcome third-placed Montego Bay United (47 points) to the Juici Park in Clarendon.
In another 3:30 pm start, Tivoli Gardens FC, who have lost three-in-a-row, entertain Collie Smith Drive-based Boys’ Town FC, who will have to make the short trip to the Edward Seaga Sports Complex.
Sixth-placed Tivoli have 38 points, while Boys’ Town, precariously perched in ninth place after two wins in their previous five games, have 30 points.
At 6:00 pm, last season’s losing finalists Waterhouse FC accept the visit of first-time RSPL entrants Barbican FC.
Waterhouse are second in the 12-team points standing with 50 points, while Barbican, in cellar position on 21 points, look likely to be one of two teams to be relegated.
In the flagship RSPL Monday Night game to be televised live starting at 8:30 pm, leaders Arnett Gardens FC take on visiting team Reno FC at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Arnett Gardens, who have held top spot for a number of weeks, have 53 points, while struggling former national champions Reno are 11th with 27 points.
