D’Bandit for Bacchanal
IN addition to headliner Trinidadian soca artiste Akil ‘5 Star’ Borneo, Canadian DJ D’Bandit will also share the spotlight at Bacchanal Fridays at Mas Camp in St Andrew, tonight.
D’Bandit (given name Dwayne Pitt) brings a wide mix of musical experience to his craft including soca, reggae, hip hop, chutney and dancehall to the Mas Camp experience. He is one of the bandleaders of Carnival Nationz in the Toronto-based Caribana festival.
D’Bandit is also credited with advancing Caribbean culture in Canada.
“It is our aim to present a wide a mix of artistes to the Bacchanal Jamaica stage. Carnival and soca belongs to the Caribbean and we have to be inclusive. But, naturally, the glue that holds everything together is the Jamaican flavour which will be provided on Friday by our own Richie Ras,” said Charmaine Franklin, director of Bacchanal.
Franklin also spoke of special discounted entry fee for general patrons.
“We want to ensure that the party is open to all who want to enjoy the carnival vibe. Last week we had a 2 for 1 special and this week we are discounting our regular price by $500.00,” she said.
Next week Lyrikal is scheduled to be the headline act, while soca superstars Fay Ann Lyons and Bunji Garlin are slated as Bacchanal Friday closing acts for the following week.
Popular fetes Beach J’ouvert and Bacchanal J’ouvert are scheduled for April 5 and April 10, respectively.
Bacchanal Jamaica’s 2015 season culminates with the exciting road march on April 12.
