Captain’s Bakery/St James KO kicks off today
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The St James Football Association Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knockout will get under way this afternoon with three games and will continue all of this week with 15 first-round matches.
Thirty teams — from the Red Stripe Premier League, Western Confederation Super League, the Sandals Senior League and Division One — are taking part in the competition that offers the winners at least $100,000.
Premier League team Montego Bay United, who suffered an upset in the final last season by Granville FC, will start favourites for a third-straight final appearance and will open their quest tomorrow against Salt Spring United at Jarrett Park in the third game of a triple header.
There will be five teams from the Western Confederation Super League as well as 12 teams from the Senior and Division One competitions taking part.
The best-placed team, apart from Montego Bay United, will also qualify for the Flow Champions Cup all-island knockout as well.
In the only game involving a Senior League team today, Marl Road will take on Division One Granville City at the Granville Community Centre.
At Albion, Salt Spring Roses and Seaview FC meet for a second-round spot, while Paradise FC and Mountain Villa will meet at the UDC field.
