Overseas Examinations Commission celebrates 12 decades in stewardship
CRITICAL partners and stakeholders are expected to join the commissioners and staff of the Overseas Examinations Commission (OEC) in a celebration to mark over 12 decades of the OEC’s stewardship in the administration of external examinations in Jamaica. The celebratory event is set for March 12 at the Talk of the Town, Jamaica Pegasus.
The evening will feature a dynamic and informative review of the work, worth and influence of the OEC, its far-reaching impact on the Jamaican educational landscape, and the innovative ways in which the Commission aims to remain relevant while still being financially sustainable.
A special presentation of the recently published book, Administering Overseas Examinations in Jamaica — A History of the Overseas Examinations Commission, commissioned by the OEC and produced by Professor Patrick Bryan, will be made by the OEC to various institutional partners.
The OEC is a public body under the Ministry of Education, established by an act of Parliament (2005). Since 1887 and throughout the decades, the OEC has developed a solid reputation in administering examinations and providing examinations-related services to the nation. Guided by its core values of integrity, efficiency, security, the OEC has successfully conducted some of the most sensitive international secondary examinations, including the universities of London and Cambridge; the suite of examinations offered by the Caribbean Examinations Council; and a wide range of UK-based professional examinations.
Today the OEC remains committed to the broader mandate, goals and objectives of the Ministry of Education in the certification of Jamaican students and to continue the tradition of excellence in the execution of our mission.
