Mountain Villa, Somerton score wins
ROSE HALL, St James — Mountain Villa and promoted Somerton FC scored their first wins as the St James Football Association Sandals/ATL Division One continued on Thursday.
Terrick Thompson’s double took Mountain Villa past Westgreen 4-2 at Wyndham, while Somerton were 1-0 winners over Irwin at Irwin. In another game Paradise and Copperwood played out an exciting 3-3 draw at the UDC field.
At Wyndham, Edmond Sherif gave Mountain Villa the lead in the 11th minute but Dwight Johnson equalised in the 25th minute.
Courtney Chisholm restored Mountain Villa’s lead in the 43rd minute as they led 2-1 at half-time, while Thompson scored in the 57th and 62nd minutes to extend their lead to 4-1.
Mian Scarlett’s 82nd goal for Westgreen only served to lower the deficit.
Marvin Ellis scored in the 89th minute for Somerton as they won their first game after two draws following their promotion to the Division One last season.
At the UDC field, Copperwood came from two goals down to earn a 3-3 draw with Paradise FC.
Nate James in the 21st minute and Peter Campbell in the 26th staked Paradise to a 2-0 lead, but Danique Rose scored the first of his two goals in the 42nd minute to pull one back for Copperwood FC.
Everard Chambers scored in the 45th minute for Paradise FC, who led 3-1 at half-time.
Rose got his second goal in the 52nd minute to cut the deficit to one, and in the 85th minute Roshane Samuda scored the equaliser.
