Tuffy’s hat-trick puts Waterhouse in 7th Heaven
THE stuttering form of Waterhouse was mended sharply with a 7-2 mauling of Harbour View in a crucial Red Stripe Premier League game at Drewsland on Monday night.
The victory margin is big enough to hearten any coach, especially when it is achieved against a quality team as Harbour View, who have twice defeated Waterhouse this season. Coach Anthony Patrick was elated with the outcome.
“I think what happened tonight is a testimony of what was planned for at our final training session yesterday (Sunday), and to get four goals in the first 45 minutes was very good for team spirit as it worked out even better than we had planned.
“Our plan going into the game was to try to get two goals in the first 15 minutes and we got some really good football here tonight … this is a good fillip for the team, but we just have to carry things a bit higher for the team to be at a high momentum rate going forward.”
Harbour View’s coach Andrew Hines was comforted only in the thought that Jermaine Hue’s presence made a whole lot of difference in the Harbour View line-up. “In every type of situation, such as the one which Harbour View experienced in this game, you must find some good.
And if that good is the resurrection of Jermaine Hue then I will take heed and use that as a platform for going forward and revamp, pull ourselves out of the gutter and save our season,” Hines said. It was a crucial game for either of the teams who were coming off consecutive debilitating defeats.
Therefore, nothing less than a win would be considered acceptable recompense to get either back on track. The game, therefore, began at a brutal pace and Waterhouse, playing on familiar territory, let the advantage work in their favour by wasting little time in producing a goal in the seventh minute.
Dynamic striker Juvaune Benjamin, who later sustained a broken right foot and had to leave the field for hospital, scored from almost on the goal line from a right-side corner kick.
This was the cue the team wanted as they ran riot against their visitors with further successes to lead by a healthy 4-1 advantage at the half-time break.
Two splendid long-range thunderblasts from Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson in minutes 25 and 37 complemented Benjamin’s opening salvo. But not before attacking defender Evan Taylor got in on the carnage by releasing a 35- yard projectile that scudded past the Harbour View goalkeeper Levor Williams, in minute 30.
It is a goal that should long be remembered by those who saw it as one of the most stunning to be seen in many seasons. Two minutes on, veteran midfielder Hue, who returned to the Harbour View set-up to sure up their flagging midfield, promptly demonstrated how effectively penetrating he can be by once again producing one of his many classic leftfooted crackers from distance to reduce the deficit going into the half-time break.
Stung by Waterhouse’s rapier-like opening salvo, Harbour View returned for the second session to put their hosts under immediate pressure and found the back of the net with their second goal seven minutes after the restart through Ranique Muir.
The leg-breaking injury to Benjamin in the 69th minute seemed to derail the Harbour View momentum, as Waterhouse regained theirs with Anderson scoring his first hat-trick for the season and midfielder Tremaine Stewart adding his bit with two goals to complete the rout.
